When unlocking helps
You have the password but need an open copy for merge, compress, or annotation workflows that reject locked files.
Unlock PDF
Remove password protection.
Enter the document password and download an unlocked copy you can open freely. Your password is used to complete the job and is not saved in your file record. Unlock only works when you already know the correct password — we do not crack files.
Security reality check
Removing a password you know is convenience, not a security bypass. If you lost the password, unlock will not invent it.
After unlock
Continue with Strip Metadata or Privacy Pack if the unlocked file still carries author or producer fields you do not want to share.

- Do you keep my password?
- No. It is used only to complete the unlock job and is not saved in your file record.
- What if the PDF is not password-protected?
- Unlock only works on encrypted PDFs. If your file opens without a password, there is nothing to remove — pick another tool instead.
- Does this crack PDFs?
- No. You must know the correct password. Filemynt does not brute-force encrypted documents.
- What happens to the file and password afterward?
- The uploaded PDF is unlocked and deleted on a short schedule (typically within about one to two hours), and your password is not saved in your file record. Nothing is kept for training, advertising, or resale.
